Are there any financial awards avaliable for Quality Education in Toronto?
 
There are two types of Education Award given by the ASQ Toronto Section:

The Bob Cardno Award

Open to graduates of the Toronto Quality Certificate Program,

The Education Institute Awards

Open to students presently taking the Toronto Quality Certificate Program.

Bob Cardno Award

Each year the ASQ Toronto Section presents the prestigious Bob Cardno Award to an exemplary student in the Toronto Quality Certificate Program at one of the eligible Institutions within the Greater Toronto Area. Under certain circumstances, two awards will be made.

Cash prize

The cash prize shall be subject to annual review by the Education and Executive Committees of the Toronto Section, in 2002 it was $700. Nominees shall be guests at the Toronto Section Annual Quality Forum.

Eligibility

The Award shall be available to graduates of the Quality Certificate Program sponsored by the American Society for Quality and offered at the eligible Institutions within the Greater Toronto Area. Only one candidate may be nominated from each programme of an eligible Institution e.g. day and evening programmes.

Eligible Institutions shall be those formally recognized educational facilities within the Greater Toronto Area. The Education Committee shall maintain an annually reviewed and approved list of such Institutions.

Candidates must be nominated by the Education Institute Administrator and have successfully completed the course of study to qualify for a Certificate from the Education Institute from the previous academic year. The academic year shall be defined as that ending on 31st August prior to the Toronto Section Annual Quality Forum.

Applications

Applications must be submitted in the format of the Official College Transcript or Grade Reports and a letter of nomination from the Education Institution to the designated member of the Education Committee. Each Candidate must submit a letter, with objective evidence, outlining:


reasons to be deserving of the award;


excellence in scholarly achievements;


how key quality principles have been applied and practiced with excellence in the field of application.

Nominations must be received by the deadline established annually by Education Committee, or the person assigned the responsibility, to be eligible. Submissions received after the deadline will not be considered.

Award Presentation

Winners will be presented with their awards at the annual Quality Forum promoted by the American Society for Quality, Toronto Section.

Education Institute Awards

Each year the ASQ Toronto Section may present two deserving students from each recognised Toronto area college with an Education Institute Award.

Award Composition

Certificate suitable for framing;

Cash prize.

The cash prize shall be subject to annual review by the Education and Executive Committees of the Toronto Section, in 2002 it was $150.

Eligibility

Eligible students shall be those who have successfully completed at least three (3) of the component courses of Toronto Quality Certificate Program at an eligible Institution and:


are students who may benefit from a financial award;

have a minimum average course mark of 75%;
have a minimum attendance record of 70%.
Eligible Institutions shall be those formally recognised educational facilities within the Greater Toronto Area. The Education Committee shall maintain an annually reviewed and approved list of such Institutions.

Selection shall be made by the responsible authority of the institution and the Education Institute Co-Ordinator. Administrators are advised that they are free to use their discretion in determining which students ‘may benefit from a financial award’ and documentary evidence will not be required. Evidence of course marks and attendance records may be requested.

Applications

Applications shall be submitted to the designated member of the Education Committee in the format of a letter of nomination from the Education Institute.

Nominations must be received by the deadline established annually by Education Committee, to be eligible. Submissions received after the deadline will not be considered.

Award Presentation

Winners will be presented with their awards at the December Members Appreciation Awards Night Celebration Meeting of the American Society for Quality, Toronto Section.
